Under the auspices of the local health authorities a number of self-help groups have created a network of information and advisory services here, which is unique in Germany. Treatments are offered for musculo-skeletal illnesses, rheumatic diseases, disorders of the nervous system, psychosomatic fatigue, general weakness, convalescent care.

The town

Wiesbaden, the capital of Hesse Region, is an attractive spa town west of Frankfurt and a stone’s throw from Mainz with a handful of historic attractions, luscious green parks to calm the weariest of urban eyes, and an attractive historic thermal bath. The city is one of the oldest mineral spa resorts in Europe. Known as the "City of Health", it has now evolved into a centre providing top-qualitymedical care, with a patient catchment area that extends far beyond the local region and even outside Germany. At one time, Wiesbaden boasted 27 hot springs and fifteen of the springs are still flowing today.

In addition to its wellness reputation, Wiesbaden has always lured the literary big game. Goethe spent time here in 1814, and Russian writers have swooned in over the centuries to gamble, experience the rich green shadows of this spa town, and depart with empty pockets. Dostoevsky messed himself up badly here in the 1860s when he amassed huge debts at the city’s gambling tables.  In 1872, the Prussian-dominated Imperial government closed down all German gambling houses. The Wiesbaden casino was reopened in 1949.
